Last week we went on a study trip to the Anhui province, here's a look into who and what we encountered:
the view from the summit of Huangshan
a small village near Huangshan
Jiuhuashan:
This monk came up to me, grabbed my arm and looked straight into my eyes and told me to take a picture with him. So we did.
the pagoda: we climbed up the very top floor and came across one of the most beautiful panoramic views
The Buddhist Nunnery we stayed at in Jiuhuashan at sunset.
Matt and I with our faces lined up with Buddha's profile in the mountainside.
A random woman with a couple peacocks at the heights of Jiuhuashan. (It was 15 kuai to take a picture with them, which I found out soon after I snagged this one)
a battling Praying Mantis in the Buddhist temple
standing at the top of one of the most beautiful sights in the world
looking down at the village
this one is a favorite--a Buddhist monk opposing a smoking army officer in an intense game outside the temple
wooden carvings
there were a lot of kittens scrounging for leftovers at the temples
bear hug? no, dragon hug!
our mouse "Xiao Peng You" aka Little Friend made many visits to us in the middle of the night during our stay at Jiuhuashan
cute kid
one of the many astounding jobs at the top of Jiuhua mountain: carrying a cement mixer and and down thousands of steep stone steps
Buddhist monks heading down 8,000 steps with us
a small village at the base of the mountain
the local elementary school next to an organic garden
Xiao Wei's shoes--Rebekeh and I played with Xiao Wei (the restaurant owner's 18 month old daughter) until she had a little "accident" all over her toys
I spy with my little eye...a monk's shoe in a tree? I am very curious as to how it got there
many older visitors paid to be carried up and down the mountain
a common sight at all of the Buddhist temples: a monk or nun on a cell phone
shrouded by incense smoke
